Galilee - Education

From pre-school to high school and beyond, the Galilee has the full range of educational opportunities that you would expect in a thriving, rapidly expanding, region. Municipalities invest a great deal in order to provide students with the best possible equipment and educational programs, and community centers present a wide variety of cultural and sports activities for all ages.

The Galilee offers a unique learning environment, particularly regarding opportunities to learn about other cultures and lifestyles, and how to work together, and promote multicultural harmony.

Western Galilee is home to a unique Arab-Jewish school, Hand in Hand, where Arab and Jewish children learn together. The mission is to “spark revolutionary change in Israeli education and society by establishing a new educational paradigm: integrated, bilingual schools where Jewish and Arab children and their families learn and grow together.” The Galilee branch of Hand in Hand opened in 1998. To learn more about this unique school, see the Hand in Hand website.

The Western Galilee College, located near Acco, provides the opportunity for residents of western Galilee to gain post high school education without having to travel to the major universities. The multicultural campus reflects the social and cultural composition of the region. The College works to “spread the message of cooperation”, and “regularly cooperates with Palestinian organizations and conducts management and training courses for Palestinian officials and institutions. Some 1,200 participants from more than 90 Palestinian governmental and non-governmental offices have participated in programs at the College.” To read more about the College’s activities in this area, read this Israel 21c article.

The Jordan Valley College, situated near the Sea of Galilee, offers degrees and professional diplomas in everything from arts and social science to technology and tourism. The BA programs in management, social sciences, and Jewish studies operate under the supervision of Bar Ilan University, while the school of engineering and technology provides recognized diplomas for technicians and practical engineers.
The Ort Braude College, located in Karmiel, offers a wide range of studies and training for careers in the latest technologies.
